Oh that psych sounded way out of line. My friend had a similar experience that she paid nearly $1000 for. The psych said that parents get too wrapped up in the numbers so refused to give the full results of the WISCIV, WJIII test. Yes, refused to give the numbers. After about 5months, she did finally get the numbers and come to find out, they are wrong but it's doubtful she'll be able to get them to look at it again.

Not to change the subject, but how do you know if the numbers are wrong?

I've caught errors in reports several times, and I'm just a "lay expert". The worst case I ever saw was a VCI typed up as 150-something, when the scores only added up to the 130's. Of course that could be the best case, depending on how you were looking at things, LOL!

If you are given all 10 subtest scores, there is only one possible number for each of the indices and the full scale. These numbers are simply read from a chart. Sometimes the numbers reported don't match up to the charts, in a sense proving that either the subtest scores are wrong, or the index score is wrong. Both can't be right.

And those are just the visible errors....it makes me cringe thinking about all the possible "behind the scenes" errors that exist.

Oh, testers often use a canned report too, and only change the name, data and key points at the end. I've seen several reports that switch names halfway through! I've also seen a report that tried to take advantage of the edit feature, only they also changed all of their Woodcock Johnsons to Woodcock Nameofkidsons, LOL!

Another interesting one for us was my daughter's CAPD report. Hers did the name change halfway through, but ironically it was her sister's name!! What a coincidence, as sister had never been tested there.

Psychs are human too....very busy ones at times. I loved the time I got to point out a scoring error in one of my IEP meetings (more a typo of switched index scores). The psych was out sick, and the stand in was not skilled on her own, nor was she too pleased about accepting parental input. It was a sweet moment for me when I was proven right, .

Well our first clue was that the FSIQ was not w/in the confidence interval. The second clue was that based on other scores, one of the sum of scaled scores didn't match the composite. Dottie confirmed all this for us. 8-) Thanks again Dottie!

Yes, GO Dottie! Dottie caught an error on my DD's WISC report as well. It was later confirmed by the psych. and corrected.
