I was listening in on DS11's session with his math tutor this week. He was explaining some concept to DS and was showing him how to solve an equation using a certain method. When DS asked him a question about it, I heard the tutor tell him, " Yes, there's another, better way to solve this. But it's more complex and they (meaning the school) probably won't be showing it to you for a couple of years... so why don't I just teach you how to do it now anyway?"
He has NEVER once told my son that he is too young to understand something or that he has to wait to learn a concept. He has no formal lesson plans with my son because every session is like this - start in one place and end up where the questions and interest take them. (Thanks to those at the beginning who recommended having the tutor play it by ear and not use a textbook!)
One hour with a guy like this makes up for the five hours spent in math class at school every week for my son.
Don't you wish I could clone him?
