My question is whether you can use the IAS to good effect with just the manual, or whether it's essential to buy the forms as well. The the manual by itself costs about $35; together with the forms, it costs about $100.

Thanks!

If you are just using it for your own information, or if your school doesn't care about official looking forms, the book will give you what you need to know. It's a good read, too!

Thanks Dottie. Our district is just beginning to experiment with the scales. I'd expect them to provide the forms for a formal assessment, but feel it would be wise for us to do our own independent assessment beforehand. Sounds like we don't need the forms for this purpose.

Thanks again.

Fitzi, on one of the gifted websites, it said to call the company and tell them you are a parent and they will sell you just one form.

We used the book alone for just this reason. I wanted some confirmation of my decision to request a grade skip. It provided a little peace of mind that I was doing the right thing. (It was not included in the packet of info I provided to the school with my official request)
