For anyone who is homeschooling and has not yet discovered/plunked down the $7 per quarter for Secular Homeschooling Magazine, you might be interested in this contest:

http://www.madeditor.com/2008/07/another-shameless-giveaway-official.html

She's giving away the first three issues to the person with the "most hilariously horrifying homeschooling story." She specifically states that the joke should be on the parent, not on the child.

As I have already paid for my copies of he magazine, I am not entering, though my story would probably be about getting called by the truant officer approximately TWO HOURS after I pulled DS out of school. People go to Disneyworld for a week, and that's no problem. I teach my kid for less than half a day and they threaten me with jail time. eek

Anyway, I digress...

Please enter and win and support this nice resource. smile

It was certainly an exciting day. Luckily I knew the law...and he didn't!

Reasons I lack some faith in the system...

In PA you don't have to go to school until something crazy like 9.

My town's truant officer ended up quitting to homeschool her four children. Talk about irony...

Hey, according to the blog, no one has submitted a single funny to the editor yet, so this is your chance to win. Submit something--anything!--and you have a good chance of winning the prize!
