More Davidson Young Scholars questions

I'm new here and filling out the YS application; have a couple of questions I haven't seen answered.
1. Is there a way to fill out the app. on-line, on the computer? I've done so before w/other applications using Adobe Acrobat, but I can't find a way to do that with the YS application. Or should I handwrite, or type the longer responses on a seperate sheet?
2. Is it necessary to do a portfolio if my child meets/exceeds the test criteria? - The instructions seem to indicate that it isn't necessary and I'd rather not, because I've already put so much time and effort into this and there's just too much else going on right now - DD11 exceeds the test criteria by over 10 points in both areas, so would I be unduly harming myself to skip it? I did mention her artwork and writing in response to one of the questions, and I'm sure it would support her application, but would it be o.k. to either just skip the portfolio or just submit a couple of things that I mentioned?
Reading this board has been very interesting and helpful - thanks to all who participate!

Hi, Kerry,
Welcome.
1. Someone on here was able to use Adobe Acrobat Professional to create a fill-in form. I couldn't and typed up all my answers separately b/c my handwriting is pretty much illegible.
2. It's not necessary to do a portfolio if your DD has the scores. If they want to also see a portfolio, they'll let you know. From what I've read here, if the qualifying scores are in an academic area (as opposed to verbal), you're probably okay. The portfolio is supposed to be in lieu of one set of scores only if you couldn't afford the test, or couldn't get tested for some other reason. The portfolio also supports a need more info letter if requested.
Good luck. Sounds like your DD is in a good position to begin with.
BTW, if you have any questions, you should call and ask DITD. I should have done that from the start!

I downloaded a free 30 day trial of Bluebeam PDF writer and was able to complete the application by typing into the form. I then printed, signed and mailed it it.
If both IQ and achievement scores meet the requirement you do not need to submit a portfolio.
Good luck!

Don't worry about the portfolio. In the unlikely case that they are not happy with scores you will get a letter asking for portfolio, but I wouldn't really bother.
My husband was able to fill out the questions in the full version of Adobe Acrobat, but he did run into quite a few problems while doing so.
