Hi Isa!

I'm one of the newish regulars that hang about. Glad to meet you! And I'm happy that your daughter likes her new school and teacher. It is truly amazing what a good educational fit will do for your sanity and general happiness. I understand the "heavy weight being lifted from your shoulders" comment. It sounds like your daughter's teacher is wonderful. Three cheers!

I have an 8-year-old boy who keeps me on my toes. We have had a crazy week or two at our house, but hopefully it is settling down now. I hope to be a more regular regular here than I have been in the past few days! wink

Hi Isa,
Yup, At most I'm just checking the pretty new 'recent posts' column!

But I'm glad you bumped yourself to the forefront! It's great to hear that your daughter likes her new school and her new teacher. I think it's also a big step forward to have a 'real' visual issue diagnosis that you can share with the school. And a grade skip? Wow!

I think I missed a lot during Summer Vacation!

Bottom Line: Yippee!

Welcome back from your world travels Isa! I'm so happy to hear that your daughter's needs are being addressed, and the grade skip went well. Yay!

Hi there,
thanks a lot for the responses smile

I have not much time lately to post, even though I would like to contribute more ....

In any case, DD still loves the school and she is now doing 'homework' - self-appointed, because where I live there is no homework until age 10 or so.
Tomorrow I have an appointment with Mrs Teacher to see how are things.

DD is still happy about the school even though she has started to realized that there is quite a lot of drilling.

By the way, the entire math curriculum for the first grade is: count until 20 and do sums (without fingers) until 10. Even for NDs, isn't that a little bit.... too little ???
Teacher has assured me that DD will get something more advance but I have not seen it yet... In the meantime, DD has discovered an activity book that my sister handed over from DC and she was doing sums like crazy tonight. If Mrs Teacher does not harry up, DD is going to learn the math curriculum of next year by herself.

In any case, it is nice to see her so enthusiast about learning smile

I think most first graders can count to 20, but I'm not sure all of them have their math facts down cold, at least not from what I've seen in the classroom.

Glad DD is happy, if she is happy to do the stuff at home, I think that's great.

I don't think either or my girls have learned much if anything in math at school that they hadn't already self-learned prior.
Just seems to be the way it goes. ((shrug))
