I found a website that helps you increase your vocabulary - or at least see how big your vocabulary is! It is www.freerice.com . I have become addicted I must admit. I looked it up on snopes and it says it is a legitimate website. So while you are increasing your vocabulary you are helping underprivileged people at the same time. It's really fun!! smile

I think someone posted this info here before, but it's nice to get a reminder. I've played twice and gotten stuck at level 46. I get very frustrated when I get leveled down, and then I choose unwisely!

DS doesn't care for the game, but DD 7 has played quite a bit. She's got the spirit of it better than I do- She says, "Look how much rice I've donated!" whereas I got trapped thinking too much about the levels. Funny, as I have never been grade conscious...

My 9 yr old and I have also tried this a few times. When neither one of us knows what the word means, he makes his best "educated guess" and his guesses are often better than mine. I think making educated guesses can be a good test taking tool, so this is another way for him to practice these skills. So far we only made it up to 45 before we quit. We will try again when we are not so busy. My son has been in rehearsals with his musical theatre group for a two hour musical revue they will be doing New Years Eve and it doesn't leave us much time for anything else. They don't have much time to prepare for this show and having to learn new songs and dances leaves him exhausted.
