No perfect scores coming here either, as DS didn't finish ONE question in the math, and didn't have that maturity that ACS's son had in the last minute bubbling. But I still hold out crazy hopes for a 24! (Low 20's is more reasonable though)

Rats....now I'm feeling that little green monster again! sick Here's hoping they do come Monday though.

I'm glad I called yesterday, as it did remove some of my "entitlement" expecations for today's mail.

Just to give you a sense of how many you can miss and still get a good score, I just checked my ACT book.

To get 25's you would need to get the following number right:
English 55 out of 75
Math 40 out of 60
Reading 25 out of 40
Science 29 out of 40

These vary a bit from test to test, but you can see that you really don't have to get them all finished to do well as long as you do well on the ones you answer. But there is no penalty for guessing so it it worth it to fill in on the bubbles even if you don't finish. That what's so great about these tests for most of our kids, finally lots ceiling.

To get scores in the 30's you'd have to finish and I know there are kids who do finish. But there is no shame in not finishing.

While you're pushing the ACT, I'll just add that you can't beat their turnaround time!!! Next year we are definitely doing the ACT over the Explore. This 6+ week stuff is for the birds, frown .

DS11 did well. His composite went up over-all, but his English did go down. It may have been one of the two subtests which he didn’t finish- or not. We are going to have to work on time for the ACT in April, but I won’t hold my breath on his finishing all of it.

Thanks for the info. Our mailman comes in the afternoon (SOON!!) so I will make the trip through several feet of snow in hopes to get the results.I am glad your DS did well and it's nice to have a comparison from last year. This is DD9's first time taking it and I am once again in deep GT denial.

How are the results presented? I remember seeing a website where you can punch in the scores to give a better illustration of the results and comparison with other GT kids taking the test. I hope the results that come in are easy enough to read and understand.

Jen, the most useful information will be the 8th grade percentiles. The other scores are scaled 1-25, and not really "meaningful" out of context. Our talent search also gives percentiles for grade level GT kids, and knowing where your child falls amongst other GT Xth graders is very helpful too! You can PM me if you want to chat further....but for the time being, I only have two reports from LAST year to chat about cry !

If anyone cares, it appears that PA GT students are smarter, grin

Here is a blurb based on 2004-2006 numbers (my last year report), that also includes 3rd grade...

English/Math/Reading/Science/Composite (talent kids norms)

3rd; 12.1/10.8/12.1/14.3/12.5
4th; 14.4/13.0/13.7/16.0/14.4
5th; 16.3/15.2/15.4/17.4/16.2
6th; 17.9/16.8/16.7/18.6/17.6

Weird, the average 8th grade scores are higher too, but I guess it fluctuates somewhat by year...

8th; 14.2/15.1/13.8/15.9/14.9

The 8th grade scores aren't dated, but the talent search ones are specific to PA and from 2004-2006.

Our report also has a nice breakdown that will give you talent search percentiles for each grade, for each specific subject score, which is nice.

It also breaks the scores down into 3 ranges, with the lowest range being a more "MG" range, and the two higher ones suggesting more radical needs.
