Okay, first off it makes a big deal if she was 8 years 3 months or 8 years 4 months, so assuming she was <8:4, yes, her new Similarities score would be 19. Thanks for sharing by the way, as given that it lands in the "higher" half of 19, I'm pretty sure my own son's 18 would have gone up as well (no raw scores, cry ).

The VCI would go up to 150, from this one point jump.

However, it appears there are two totals for a full scale of 144. You'll have to go back and add all 10 subtest totals (the 1-19 numbers) to figure that out. Don't add the optional tests if you have them (Word Reasoning, Information, Picture Completion, Arithmetic and Cancellation).

If your total is 158, the full scale is 144 (might be original total)

If your total is 159 (with possibly your new point), the full scale is still 144.

However, if your total is now 160 (if it was 159 originally), the new full scale is 145. What a way to land in the golden zone if that's the case, LOL!

Got it, thanks for the very clear explanation. It looks like we have a 159, so the total score isn't going to move. I think we have all the numbers we need to advocate properly. If we apply to DYS, hopefully the VCI score will be enough. We are waiting on Achievement scores this week.

Thanks again, your information was very helpful.

You are very welcome!!! And yes....the VCI is already there! grin

Did I read previously that your achievement test of choice was the Explore? I do hope they come within the week, but be warned that last year they took the full 6. There are a few of us waiting on that one.

Best wishes!!!

We received our WJ III scores and DD9 was scored as grade 4.6 with a total achievement of 137. She was grade accelerated and did not go to 3rd grade, so I wonder if this hurt her score on this test. Any thoughts? I am not sure it is worth applying to DYS without the necessary score.

Loc: here! Where else? (Duh!)
Did she hit 145 on any of the other 3 applicable scores? (Broad Reading, Writing or Math.)

Total Achievement isn't the only one that they accept.

Did you go with private testing? The scores can be punched for both grade placement AND actual age. Your tester should be able to print out another report using her age for scoring, if the grade was actually used. Most testers use the age automatically for scoring purposes. I'm not clear about your daughter's scoring. But yes, if grade was used, it would tend to lower the scores, and a 137 could quite easily be a 146 if the age is taken into account. It's close enough to warrant a phone call! If it was age.....do know that 137 is still a fantastic score, even if not in the DYS range.

You have outstanding Explore scores too, right? Hopefully any day now!!!! *tapping impatiently*

Dottie - I was just getting ready to ask you if you'd gotten your scores yet. Is the 6 weeks almost up???

Oh Nnngoose, I went and pulled my daughter's report, and it has both her age AND her grade on it. Then it has these words "Norms based on age 9-8".

That is the part that could strongly impact your daughter's scoring. If that does say "4.6", then you should really try to have them repunched. Since they have all of her raw score data, it should be a 2 minute job on the scoring software and an extra piece of paper. Hopefully they'll help you out, as it will make a difference!

And it's been 4 weeks and change EandC. Last year my scores came on Monday of that 5th week (yesterday), but we tested in February. My January friends waited longer...the full 6. I don't expect them until late next week, but of course I'm checking excitedly every day!

Are they going to do this with the WPPSI-III as well? My son had three 18's and a 19.

Since the WPPSI only goes through age 6, I doubt it Cathy, sorry! The WISC-IV really only shows growth if you hit those 18/19 scores at an early age, as the test goes through 16. The increase becomes rare with increasing age. It would only make sense on the WPPSI for kids who are 2/3, and norms in that area are shaky to begin with.
